Newsletter: March 1999

This is a brief update regarding the activities and progress for the Analytical Laboratory Technical Committee (ALTC) of the American Society for Quality Energy and Environmental Division. Please send me an e-mail:

If you didn't receive the first mailing that describes the ALTC's mission and work areas.
If you don't want to be on the e-mailing list.
If you want to join the ATLC and participate.
If you just want to read the e-mailings and know what we are doing.

We've received a good response (>80) from the first mailing. Several volunteers have offered to lead subcommittees. Contact them (and copy me) to join us.

PBMS and NELAC: Dr. CarlC. Kircher, Florida Dept. of Health, e-mail to: carl_kircher@doh.state.fl.us
Ethics: Timothy L. Dawson, USEPA Region VI, e-mail to: dawson.timothy@epamail.epa.gov

We also have several candidates for papers at the Division's San Antonio conference, October 3-6, 1999. The theme is "Best Practices" for the Energy Industry, and the Analytical Laboratory session will be in the Government track of the program. Early papers proposed include use of Standard Reference Materials in government and subcontractor labs; legal and quality considerations of ethical misconduct in the laboratory; and quality and productivity in the government lab. If you have a paper on a topic that meets the theme of the conference, please contact me. We may be able to add more papers in another session.

Dr. Larry Keith, at the Waste Policy Institute in Blacksburg, Virginia, asked me to let you know about the upcoming USEPA Waste Testing and Quality Assurance Symposium in July. You may obtain initial information about the symposium at the website http://www.wpi.org/wtqa, but there will be more later as they organize a strong technical session. The call for papers has been issued.

I'll attend the ASQ EED meeting in Las Vegas from March 14-17, and send you a summary of the conference highlights later in March.

Thanks for your time, interest, and efforts.
