Synopsis of ISO-17025 Course

What Are the Details?
This course will be presented Thursday, August 30, 2001, following the ASQ Energy & Environmental Division’s “2001 National Conference” at the Richmond Omni Hotel, in Richmond, Virginia. It will be six hours long (plus one hour for lunch). The cost will be $425, including training materials and lunch. This workshop is sponsored by the Analytical Laboratories Technical Committee, a part of the Energy & Environmental Division.

Who Should Attend?
Lab Managers, Quality Managers, and senior staff who will be involved in preparing a lab for ISO-17025 accreditation, whether by A2LA or for NELAC.

What Will Be Presented?
An overview of ISO-17025 will be presented, including a history of its evolution from ISO-25; the standard’s relationship to other ISO standards; and its importance to NELAP accreditation.

Management Requirements of the standard will be discussed, covering the organization and administration of the business of the laboratory, including quality systems, document control and records management, procurement of services and supplies, subcontracts, dealing with complaints, corrective and preventive actions, internal audits and management reviews.

Technical Requirements that describe how tests are performed and documented will then be presented, including personnel training and proficiency requirements, facility conditions, methods and method validation, equipment considerations, measurement traceability, sampling, handling of calibration and test items, quality assurance and reporting of results.

ISO-17025 Audits—material will be presented that describes what auditors look for, and how the lab can present qualifications and records to best advantage.
